Ear Pain

There can be ear pain to almost any one from small babies, to grown-ups and adults. In comparison small children are more prone to ear infection than adults. To get rid of pain it is very necessary to know the actual cause of pain. There are direct and indirect causes to ear pain.

Direct cause can be due to:-

• Swimmer’s Ear
• An infected Cyst
• Middle Ear Infection
• An injury
• Pressure (often from flying or diving)
• A foreign object lodged in the ear canal

The indirect cause is the one when the pain from any other body part moves to ear. Some of the indirect causes are:-

• The removal of tonsils
• Sinus problems
• Dental problems (e.g., children cutting new teeth)

Person having pain should always sleep with the bad ear facing up as sleeping on the infected ear can aggravate mare pain. The doctor’s prescribe the pain killers and antibiotics to relieve you from pain. If the pain killers are taken in excess it will lead to stomach problems so one should limit the use of pain killers. One of the most effective and quick provider of relief is the antiseptic ear drop, most doctors prefer for the patients. The antiseptic ear drops must be used according to the instructions on the box.

If the problem is grave consult an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist who will treat you for the ear pain and at times there can be need to perform additional procedures like surgery as per the underlying condition.
